Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
Brain injury, sometimes called Acquired Brain Injury, describes any damage to the brain that happens after birth. The damage can be caused by an accident or trauma, a stroke, a disease or infection, or alcohol and other drugs. Since no two people are the same, every brain injury can be different in its effects
Hearing Impairment
Hearing impairment , deafness , or hearing loss refers to the total or partial inability to hear sounds. Hearing loss ranges from mild to profound. Mild hearing loss may result in difficulties in understanding speech, moderate deafness may need a hearing aid, cease while some people are severely deaf and communicate through sign language.
Psychosocial Disability
Psychosocial disability is a term used to describe a disability that may arise from a mental health issue. Psychosocial disability is not about a diagnosis, it is about the functional impact on barriers which may be faced by someone living with a mental health condition.
Visual Impairment
Visual impairment is a term use to describe any kind of vision loss, whether it’s someone who cannot see at all or someone who has partial vision loss. Some people are completely blind.
Autism
Autism is also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is a developmental disorder that occurs across all genders, cultures and communities. Autism affects how a person learns and how they interact with others and their surroundings. All people on the autism spectrum are unique and different. Search for resources below.
Intellectual Disability
Spinal Cord Injury
A spinal cord injury is one in which the spinal cord is damaged and results in the loss of functioning. It can occur as a result of the trauma such as a fall, spina bifida, stroke or other back and spine conditions. Paraplegia refers to a loss of functioning below the chest while pod to pleasure refers to a loss of functioning below the neck.
Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a physical disability that affects movement and posture. It is a permanent life-long condition, but generally does not worsen over time. CP affects body movement, muscle control, muscle coordination, muscle tone, reflex, posture and balance. People who have cerebral palsy may also have visual, learning, hearing, speech, epilepsy and intellectual impairments.
Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple Sclerosis is a condition of the central nervous system which interferes with nerve impulses within the brain and spinal cord and optic nerves. Sclerosis refers to scars caused by the condition which manifest into different symptoms depending on where they develop.
Stroke
Stroke happens when the blood supply to the brain through the arteries is interrupted. Blood may be interrupted or stop moving because the arteries blocked, or it bursts. When brain cells do not get enough oxygen and nutrients, they die.
