A spinal cord injury is one in which the spinal cord is damaged and results in the loss of functioning. It can occur as a result of a trauma such as a fall, spina bifida, stroke or other back and spine conditions. Paraplegia refers to a loss of functioning below the chest while quadriplegia refers to a loss of functioning below the neck.
